Departing from Rifugio Sapienza, take a cable car up to an altitude of 2,500 meters. From there, start the trek to about 3,000 meters. The presence of ice and snow makes this excursion an activity a fun challenge for experienced hikers. Kudos to the Ashara team and special thanks to Mary for the friendly organization. She had kindly organized a transfer for us, when it had failed the night before with Covid, she personally took us to the meeting point in a private car. Thank you for the exciting conversations, it was great to get local insides from life in Catania including a coffee stop! Best wishes also to our guide Vinzenco, with every explanation you were able to authentically convey your passion for volcanology and your love for Big Mama Mount Etna. Even if this is not the cheapest tour offered, you will not regret it... the impressive landscape in combination with the lots of information makes trekking as close as possible to the crater something very special. We will definitely come back again when the opportunity arises!! Best regards from Germany… Rebekka & Kris

The route is difficult, not medium, especially on the last sector, at over 2,700 m altitude. I personally could not go further than the first section of the route, the guide tried to help me, but I chose to return with a group to the cable car. The guide gave me clear explanations how we can get back and to contact him to make sure we got back safely. The rest of the group reached 3,000 m altitude, but the opinion was that here the route is extremely difficult. Maybe this route should be listed in the description in the "hard" category.

We did this excursion with the guide Giuseppe: capable, competent, safe and polite guide. It allowed us to have a unique experience even with our daughters, for whom it was very informative both for all the specific and geological information, and in the educational field in respect of nature and an environment as particular and unique as a volcano. . Highly recommended !!

Very interesting trekking tour with wonderful views. The guide found the right pace for the group. From 2500m to 3000m you need a bit of breath. A lot was explained along the way. Absolute recommendation.

Very nice tour. The guides are very committed, well informed and happy to provide extensive information.
