Full description
After hotel pick-up in the early hours, head to the first stop on the trek at the Kilometer 30 viewing point at Thanarat Road. Capture the scenery of the Northern part of Khao Yai National Park, great for photo opportunities. Trek onward to Kilometer 33, known as Nong Park Chi to the locals. Walk for around 2 hours, passing an observation tower and many different species of wildlife. There is a salt lick close to the tower to attract wildlife, along with a lake, open grassland and forest. Savor a traditional Thai lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, head to the Khao Yai National Park Visitor Center in the park headquarters, a useful starting point for visitors with information and interpretive facilities to enhance your appreciation of the park. See exhibits on the natural environment and wildlife of Khao Yai, and get information about day hiking trails. Finally, stop at the splendid Haew Suwat Waterfall, with plenty of shady tree spots to sit under and many large rocks to lie down on and relax. This stunning waterfall was made famous in The Beach, but is unfortunately off limits to swim in. After your full day trekking in the forest, transfer back to Bangkok at approximately 6:00 PM.

Our guide, Mr. Yuth was a very fun and knowledgeable tour guide. We got to see many wild animals and plants that are native to Kao Yai national park. After the trekking was over, the park ranger called our guide, Mr. Yuth, to tell him about the rare sighting of a wild elephant roaming freely in the park area. Mr. Yuth went out of his way to show us the wild elephant so that we could have this precious moment of our trip. The lunch at the Kao Yai park was very nice. We are pescatarians so our lunch didn't include any red, white meat or dairy. Mr. Yuth said that the food at the Kao Yai park is more toward Thai local taste. The food was so good that even my mother, who is a 70-year-old Korean woman and has never tasted Thai food before, grew fondness for Thai food. The sighting of a wild elephant was the highlight of this trip and I can say for sure that the food at the Kao Yai park was the best local Thai food I've ever tried.

The park is about 3 hrs drive from Bangkok, so you will spend a significant amount of time in a van, however when you get there you will recognize it was worth it! I was lucky enough to be alone in my group, so I could spend lots of time talking to the guides, they also let us go slightly off track from time to time to be able to spot some gibbons. Amazing day!

The car was very comfortable and the driver very attentive, providing lots of information, bottled water and freshening wipes. The walk through the jungle was great - sadly we didn’t see elephants but saw lots of birds and insects toucans and gibbons swinging through the trees.
