Admire Bangkok's impressive landmarks from the water. Discover how Bangkok earned the name the "Venice of the East" on this half-day morning tour.
What to Expect
Meet your own private captain and guide at the riverside’s boat pier around 07:30. Sail over the Chao Phraya River for an early morning glimpse of life from the water.
Head toward Thonburi, the western part of Bangkok by the Chao Phraya River, whose many canals earned Bangkok the name “Venice of the East.” Get a firsthand look at the scenic life along Bangkok's waterways as you pass by onboard the boat. See the Royal Barges Museum and the Wat Arun or "Temple of the Dawn." As its name suggests, the temple is most beautiful when viewed from the east side of the river at dawn.
The official residence of the Kings of Thailand from the 18th to mid-20th century, the Grand Palace is an architectural wonder of golden steps, walls and pillars encrusted in shining and colorful mosaics. From the water, see the Reception Hall, Coronation Hall, Throne Hall, Royal Guest House and Wat Phra Kaew with predominantly Thai architecture, with hints of European influence.
Wat Phra Kaew is the most famous building on the palace grounds, regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. Construction began on the temple when King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785. The main temple building houses the Emerald Buddha, carved from a single piece of jade and considered the most revered object in Thailand.
After the water exploration, return by long boat to your hotel pier along the River of Kings at approximately 12:30. This excursion operates only in the morning.
