Full description
Wat Bang Phra is a Buddhist monastery, approximately 50 kilometers west of Bangkok. The temple is known for its daily tattoos, or Sak Yant, given by the local monks. This tradition of tattooing dates back hundreds of years. The Gao Yord Yant or 9 Spires Yant is a sacred tattoo, believed to protect and bring good luck to the bearer. This has a similar meaning to another Sak Yant design, the Hah Taew Yant. The Gao Yord Yant is usually tattooed on the nape of the neck. The 9 Spires Yant is a geometric design and represents the 9 Sacred Peaks of Mount Meru. It contains 9 symbolic images of Buddha, demonstrating how important the number 9 is in Buddhism. This experience is truly unique in Thailand as the monks are only giving a holy tattoo and blessings to very few number of people per day. During this trip, there will be an English speaking guide who will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel in downtown Bangkok with an air-conditioned vehicle. The guide will explain to you the details of ceremony along the way and make sure that everything goes smoothly.

This was my second time to the temple. Different guides each time. Gang went above and beyond!! I got information along the way on places to see and things to do. I also learned a little more about local culture and Gang even helped me learn some of the language. The experience in the temple was 11/10. I highly recommend this experience!

The tour was efficient and successful! Here’s what you need to know if you’re considering getting it done: tattooing starts after 8AM but the drive to the temple is about 1hr 15mins and past 9AM I was told the locals go there for the tattoo as well. I was picked up before 6:30AM which was fine. I’m guessing females get the tattoo master while males get the monk to do the tattoo. The traditional method takes ~15mins while the tattoo gun takes ~10mins of the same design. The monk/master decide which tattoo you’ll get. You can ask information about anything and the guide and driver Kong is willing to provide and translate. IT IS AS PAINFUL AS IT GETS across the spine. If you want first-hand idea, try digging your fingernail on your spine as deep as you can! It was my first tattoo. I went for the traditional method and got the Gao Yord over the spine. Lol. I managed. They have antiseptic cream and film available to buy. Came back to the hotel before 11AM. Hope this relieves some anxiety!

It was really great, the tattoo is very beautiful and the people were very nice. But the best was our Guide Kong, he was super nice, caring and showed us lot more then the Price included. If there were more activities guided by him, I would book them for sure. 5 Stars for the Trip and 10 for our Guide. Thank you!
