Full description

Learn about the construction of the Burma Railway, also known as the “Death Railway,” on this 10-hour historical tour to Kanchanaburi, approximately 80 miles (130 kilometers) west of Bangkok. Upon arrival, you will tour the well-kept War Cemetery, where the graves of an estimated 9,000 Allied soldiers are tended. They perished while constructing the notorious "Death Railway,” which the Japanese had hoped would stretch all the way to the Burmese border. Uncover the terrible history of the railway at the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum, research, and information center dedicated to presenting the story of the Thailand-Burma Railway built during World War II. See the past recreated and relived with pictures and artifacts.

You will also ride a train along the original Death Railway track, with a sumptuous lunch awaiting at the disembarkation station. Return to Bangkok in the late afternoon for your hotel drop-off.

The historical tour along the river Kwai was amazing, our guide Joe and our driver Wang Chai took good care of us explaining all activities and details about the tour. The train ride allows the passengers to better understand the landscape : rice fields, coconut and banana trees, sugar cane, the life alng the river and how the death railway was built in the jungle. I strongly recommend this day tour from Bangkok.

This was one of the best and most interesting tours I did in Thailand. I was picked up from my hotel and taken to the central pick up location. There was only 3 of us on the tour which was a bonus. Certainly the cost of the tour was at the top end but it was worth it. Our tour guide was very good and spoke good English. Lunch was included which was very good Pad Thai. It was a very hot day and we were provided with a good supply of cold water. I would definitely recommend it.

The trip was very good and very informative. Our tour guide Joe was very funny and friendly and he was very helpful. If you are interested in WW2 history it was very good. The only downside was lots of people posing inappropriately at a place where thousands of people had died, but that is a reflection on people and not on the tour guide or company.
