Full description
The area between the Flower Market and Chinatown has a great diversity of markets and food. This isn’t a shopping tour and it isn’t a full food tour. It’s a walking tour where you explore Thai culture through markets and snacks. As you walk around you will pass through several market areas selling a diverse range of items.

Markets are a vital part of Thai society and through this tour you will explore local shopping habits, eating habits, and even dig a little to learn more about the local economy. The walk passes through the heart of both the Chinese and Indian communities in Bangkok, allowing you to explore the cultural diversity of the city. Starting with a brief walk through the flower market, you will continue to walk through famous market areas like Ban Mo, the Old Siam, Phahurat, Sampaeng, Khlong Thom, Charoen Chai, and Talad Mai. As you walk, you will see each area focusing on items ranging from fabrics, electronics, wedding accessories, fashion accessories, and food. You will stop for a diverse range of snacks along the way.

This is a 3-4 hour walking tour and while it does pass through markets it is not intended to be a shopping tour. The total walk is about 3km so not too strenuous. However, it is hot in Bangkok so be prepared. You will have lots of breaks along the way. You will snack as you go (so don’t eat too much beforehand) and you should be full at the end. However, the tour will finish in Yaowarat Road in Chinatown, just as all the evening street food vendors are setting up, so if you are still hungry there will be plenty more to explore on your own after the tour.

Meeting point

The Market Experience is hidden away on the 2nd floor (mezzanine floor) of the main Yodpiman Flower Market building. This is the building between the main road and Yodpiman River Walk (the newer restaurant/shopping area by the river) and they will be selling a lot of flowers used for offerings. The easiest way to get there is to take the river ferry and get off at Pak Klong Talad pier (pier N6/1). You can get the blue flag tourist ferry (40THB – first boat is at 9:00am) or the local orange flag ferry (15THB). If you are staying near a skytrain station you can get the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin and then the ferry. When you get off the ferry you will be in Yodpiman River Walk and need to walk into the main flower market. There are some signs up so do look for signs for 'The Market Experience'. If you take a taxi or need to ask someone for assistance you can also show this instructions in Thai. ปากคลองตลาด จอดหน้าธนาคารธนชาติ
