Full description

Set off on a day trip by bus and boat to the magnificent Balos Lagoon and the Gramvousa island, on the northwestern coast of Crete. Travel by air-conditioned bus to the port of Kissamos and board the boat for a cruise with swim stops and a visit to a castle.

After an early morning pickup near your hotel, sit back and relax as you pass through beautiful scenery to get to the Port of Kissamos. There, you'll pay for the cruise and board the boat which will take you in the sea for about an hour till you reach Gramvousa island.

Once at Gramvousa, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time to explore the Venetian Fortress which offers breathtaking views from the top. Otherwise, you can stay on the boat to take advantage of the bar restaurant or you can relax at the beachside.

Afterward, the boat will continue for about 20 minutes to reach the Balos Lagoon. There, you'll have 2.5 hours of free time on the beach. Swim, snorkel, sunbathe and explore the dunes in the background.

In the afternoon, the boat will begin the cruise back to Kissamos and from there you will be driven back to your Hotel area in Rethymno.

Very nice trip! The tour operator is very reliable! Due to the delay of other guests, we were called that the bus would be 10 minutes later. The tour guide Anastasia and the bus driver Kostas were very nice. The excursion is beautiful and recommendable! Balos is a must-see on Crete. The trip to the pirate island was also nice, you had a great view and you could swim on the beach. A recommendation! :-)

We absolutely loved it. Especially how the tour was well organized and on time. Also our driver Kostas was very nice and his bus was very clean and comfortable with air conditioner very well set that it was cool enough but we didn’t feel cold neither. We experienced both Balos and Elafonissi beach tours with Markidis travel and we would have chose them again. When it comes to the tours themselves, if you don’t have enough time and want to experience something new, go for Balos tour. We went to the top of Gramvousa (bring some better shoes than flip flops) which might be a bit hard to climb for some people, so bear that in mind, especially when you go down. Then the beaches are magnificent but they are rocky, so, again, it might not be comfortable for everyone. Elafonissi beach is also very pretty but it is a bit “boring”- comfortable sandy beach with sunbeds and umbrellas. We enjoyed it as well but we would just prefer Balos over Elafonissi.

This trip was amazing the driver and tour guide we lovely people and super super helpful even driving us back up a massive hill to our hotel instead letting us walk back from the meeting point which we had set as our hotel was out of the catch area. The tour guides spoke three languages and all amazingly well. I’d highly highly recommend doing this trip it gives some relaxing time in a beautiful cove and then some awesome views at a old ruin site. completely amazing !!
