This was a great start to my trip to Bali. I was picked up at my hotel and given a tour of a local market before heading off to the home where the cooking class was held. The produces we learned about at the market were the ones we ended up using in the class which allowed for a better understanding on what you are going to be cooking with. The compound was absolutely gorgeous and the main teacher/matriarch gave us an explanation of her home and allowed us to take pictures in front of it. The cooking part was also well detailed and informative and I really liked how they explained alternative ingredients you could use if you can’t find the ones from the class back home. Everyone (especially the main teacher) was so funny and actually looked like they enjoyed what they were doing. They gave you time to take pictures of the food and ingredients but it did not overshadow the actual cooking experience. In the end, the food was amazing and it was a great way to also meet people.

The overall experience was wonderful. The pick-up was easy and prompt and they even took us to the market and while not all places were open, given it was the PM, it was interesting to see. The class was very informative, the set-up progressional and the food incredible. So many different dishes. They were very accommodating of allergies and vegetarian option was available. They also welcomed us to view their amazing family template.

This class was SO much fun! Puspa, the main teacher, was funny, engaging, and an excellent chef! You get to actively participate in all the steps of making the 8 dishes taught during the class and they make sure to tell you alternative food substitutes that may be more readily available in your home market! Vegan and vegetarian options of all the dishes were also available. You leave with a detailed cookbook so you can recreate all you learned at home. The classroom is covered/shaded and open-air located in a beautiful Balinese home. The family’s private temple, which they are generous enough to share with participants is also beautiful and adds to the ambiance! Pick-up and drop-off from our accommodation was timely and included in the cost.
