My sister and I were very fortunate to have the company of our guides, Made and Agus, who were incredibly kind, knowledgeable and friendly. They were attentive to our safety through some of the more challenging parts of the trek and Agus created photos that influencers would pay hundreds to recreate. In the end we had to beg him to stop as there are only so many photos one person can endure in a day. The journey to Java from a traveller who had not set foot in Indonesia outside Bali left me wanting to go back as soon as possible and see more of this enchanting place and engage with the wonderful people we met. Sadly, I'm still to see the sunrise over Mt Bromo as the weather did not play along and yet with the thrill of being there and adventuring to the bottom I still feel as though I got my monies worth and reason to come back again and experience it in a different fashion. There is a lot of driving involved but the guides were happy to stop for snacks and share humourous stories.

It's a very cool experience to see the Bromo and Ijen krater. Good tour guide who knows a lot from Ijen because he worked there as a miner. Unfortunately we couldn't get down to see the blue fire because the krater was to active. So that was a dissapointment. The climb to Ijen is very hard, so that is something you have to be aware of.

Our guide, Anton, was amazing and an inspiration! Our driver, Sopleg, was very good and always trying to accommodate all our requests! The experience both in Bromo and Ijen was truly unique! However, please note that the traveling times from Bali to Bromo are great! This is not for the light-hearted. It is a 3-hour drive from the center of Bali to the port. 1 hour with the ferry. And 6-7 hours driving again to Mount Bromo! This came as a surprise to us since we did not see this info in the details (the kilometers are not that much but the roads are too small and the traffic too heavy all the time). So bear in mind of this. The experience is great though and, in the end, worth the long drives. Make sure to ask for the name of the hotels and confirm with the company because they booked us different (hostels) than the ones provided in the details.
