Follow in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh on a 5-hour tour of Provence, and discover sites that inspired his most famous paintings. Explore picturesque Arles and St Remy de Provence, and drive through a scenic landscape of medieval villages and castles.
What to Expect
Explore the beautiful landscape of Provence to discover why the colors and quality of light has long been an inspiration for artists and painters, including Vincent Van Gogh.
Starting in Arles, discover locations that inspired some of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings during the time he lived there between February 1888 and May 1890. See sites that inspired paintings such as "La Maison Jaune," "Le Café le Soir," "Le Jardin des Hospices," and "La Nuit Etoilée." Marvel at the Roman amphitheater, and discover a jewel of Provençal Romanesque architecture at St. Trophime Church.
Then, enjoy a scenic drive past olive trees and vineyards to the medieval village of Les Baux de Provence, perched on a rocky spur in the Alpilles mountains. Here, you will see the former castle built in the 10th century, before ending your Van Gogh adventure at St. Remy de Provence.
Discover Roman monuments from the 1st century AD, and see some of the paintings that date from the time when Van Gogh was hospitalized in the nearby psychiatric hospital.
