See the best of Provence on this 5.5-hour tour from Avignon, taking you deep in to the heart of one of the oldest inhabited landscapes in Europe. Lush with lavender fields and Roman remains, it is one of the most beautiful areas in France.
What to Expect
Tucked between the Alps to the east and the Rhone River to the west Provence is a rich tapestry of natural and manmade wonders. On this tour departing Avignon, you will visit 3 of its finest sights, starting with a Roman escapade to the Pont du Gard
One of the best-preserved aqueducts from Roman times, it was built in the 1st century AD to supply the city of Nîmes with drinking water. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the second tallest Roman monument in the world after the Colosseum in Rome.
Next you drive to Les Baux de Provence. A picturesque medieval village perched on a rocky spur in the small Chaîne des Alpilles mountain range, it is surrounded by thousands of olive groves. Pick up some of the region’s exquisite olive oil before heading to the Luberon region and the village of Gordes.
Gordes is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. Famous for its houses made of dry stone, enjoy spectacular views across the Provencal countryside, and feel as if you have been transported back 500 years.
You will then be taken back to Avignon passing olive groves and hilltop villages as you drive.
