A gem of a museum & covers a broad group of subjects & something should interest most any visitor. Had quite a few in attendance due to school groups & cruise ships. If that should be true for you, recommend you do top floor downward or top floor, then ground floor & then middle floor to ‘manage’ flow.

Cool museum (more than just wartime exhibits)

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum, but don't let it's name fool you - the museum does have an exhibit that showcases New Zealand's participation in WWII, but it also features a large natural history section and an early peoples exhibit. I particularly enjoyed the natural history exhibit as the knowledge I gained helped me during the rest of our 12-day trip. I was even able to answer some of our guide's questions during our excursion down into the Waitomo glowworm caves :)
