Redeem your train e-tickets (they will be delivered to you via email after your booking) for the 7:57 AM morning train departure from the Central Railway Station of Athens (Stathmos Larisis) to Kalambaka and travel on your own.

Embark on a scenic train ride through the Greek countryside and admire the beautiful landscapes. You will arrive at 12:03 PM at Kalambaka’s train station, where your tour guide will be waiting for you holding a signboard with your name.

You will then board a comfortable minibus to begin an unforgettable journey to this true wonder called Meteora. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six magnificent monasteries and admire the interior of three of them.

See some of Meteora’s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient hermit caves, the Chapel of Doupiani, and the magnificent St. George Mandilas cave. You will also discover the other side of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the impossible.

Last but not least, you will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and capture some amazing photos that you will cherish forever. At around 4:45 PM, transfer back to Kalambaka’s train station. The train back to Athens departs at 6:22 PM so you will have approximately an hour and a half of free time in order for you to explore (on foot) the nearby center of Kalambaka, visit one of the many cafes or restaurants, have lunch, and relax.

Other than me could not come in a hurry, so I had a guide exclusively for me. Our guide, Nicholas, was very kind, answered all our questions politely, showed us the highlights of the monastery, and even took some pictures for us. The train from Athens is a little long, but it was a satisfying day trip. I realized that it would be impossible to visit the 6 monasteries over the mountains without joining the tour, so I was right to join this tour! Also, after the tour, lunch (although it was in the evening) was included, and at a proper restaurant, a large salad and meat stew? was eaten. I thought it was a good deal.

The day starts early where you need to take the 7.58am Train at Central Railway Station in Athens(Larisis Station) and be there 20mins before train departure. Digital train tickets will sent to you the day before via email. It will be a 4 hours train ride where you be alighting at Kalambaka Station. The cost of visiting each monastery is 3Euros per pax. Each of the monastery has its own story. The view at the monastery was amazing and close toward the end of the trip, the tour guide will bring you to a place where you will have a magnificent 360 degree view of all monasteries and scenery. Totally worth the experience. The only down side probably was the long train ride from Athens to Kalambaka Station and back to Athens.

The rating is 100% thanks to Nikos who saved our day from being the worst ever. The train from Athens is a nightmare, I do NOT recommend doing this tour if you need to take the train as it is unpredictable. It derailed in the middle of the road and left my husband, my two babies and me lying in the middle of the road... it was traumatic to see elderly people, children... carrying suitcases and not understanding anything that the staff said because nobody deigns to speak English, they only talk to each other. The buses that picked us up were terrifying and we had to literally fight for places, the truth is I would NOT do it again, but Nikos took us out of our terrible state of mind and helped us enjoy the TWO HOURS we had to see something (instead of 6 , which is normal). I do not recommend doing this tour at all unless you are staying in Kalambaka.
