  • Enjoy lunch in Mycenae or nearby Nafplio
Full description
See the famous Argolis region and the Mycenae, the city rich in gold. You will leave Athens at 08:00 for the Corinth Canal via the new scenic highway, passing by Ancient Corinth, then continuing on to Mycenae. This kingdom of mythical Agamemnon was first sung of by Homer in his epics. It is the most important and richest palatial center of the late Bronze Age in Greece. You will visit the Lion Gate, the Tomb of Agamemnon and the Palace. You will enjoy lunch in either Mycenae or Nafplio, then continue on to Epidaurus to see the main archeological site: the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. The theater was constructed in the late 4th century B.C. Originally it housed 34 rows and was used for dramatic performances. The Romans later added another 21 rows. Even in ancient times, the theater was considered to have great acoustics: the actors could be perfectly heard by all 15,000 spectators without amplifying the sound. The limestone rows naturally filter the low-frequency sounds – such as the murmur of the crowd – but amplify the sounds from the stage. Today, it still is one of the most beautiful open-air theaters in the world.

The site at Mycenae was amazing. Lots to see and it was wonderful seeing the Lions Gate up close. The museum there was small but good. The golden mask and other important objects are in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. The restaurant was standard and drinks , even cokes , coffee, or tea were extra.
