I thoroughly enjoyed the tour Our guide Helena / Elena is very good, kind, patient and a vivacious person. Right from picking up the groceries from the local market, the information on the various cheese, the restaurant where we cooked, Our chef Gianni ( a caliber of Michelin star chef) the experience was excellent. I also enjoyed the lunch served to us after the cooking class I took the tour on 30 th October 11 am .

It was an absolutely amazing experience. My mum and I ended up having a private tour as we were the only ones booked on our date. Our female tour guide (didn’t catch her name) was wonderful. She was knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything to us, and even took us on an extended tour to some spectacular view points! Our time at the market was spent collecting all the produce we needed for cooking and we got to sample some extra bits along the way. The restaurant staff were so friendly and the chef was hands on, helping us with every step. The tour guide relayed all the messages back to us in English and even gave us more information about the dishes we were preparing. We then got to eat everything we made all served to us by the most helpful staff. Overall a fantastic experience. When in Athens it’s a must do tour! Thanks again Active Athens Holidays. Join our Greek Cooking Experience and shop, cook & enjoy local recipes & delicious dishes with the guidance of our professional cook & facilitator! With the help of the facilitator you buy all the ingredients at the Central Market of Athens (15 minutes walking throught the old town of Athens) like locals. With the help of our professional and experienced cook, you learn how to prepare famous traditional Greek dishes. You savor traditional appetizers, salads & main courses, such as Tzatziki sauce (yogurt, cucumber & garlic dip), Stuffed vine leaves "dolmadakia" , Greek salad, Stuffed vegetables (peppers & tomatoes) & your dessert: Chocolate salami! All prepared by you & served in a cozy restaurant located in the heart of Athens’ Historical Center! Provided: Aprons, gloves & all supplies for the workshop A recipes book Visit to the Athens Central Market & shopping of the ingredients Reserved space for the workshop in a traditional restaurant in the center of Athens Lunch (Main Dish, 2 Appetizers, Salad, Dessert, A Glass of Wine p.p. & Mineral Water) An experienced, educated, certified (efr) & friendly facilitator will be accompanying you to assist you with anything you might need! Our activity takes place, following all the Covid-19 guidelines.

  • Get an in-depth and authentic Athens food experience, and pair a cooking class with a market visit. Alongside a local host, you’ll shop for ingredients at the Athens Central Market, meeting local traders and discussing the produce. Then, you’ll cook a lunch of traditional Greek dishes, using recipes that you can recreate or adapt back at home. The finished creations are yours for lunch.

We had a great walk in the Plaka and Monasteraki district, we experienced shopping in the central market and we cooked some food with a professional chef in a restaurant. The whole tour was very authentic immersive and informative. Special thanks to our guide Antonia. She was amazing!
