Full description

Meet your licensed tour guide, an experienced archaeologist, and then start your unique combination of a tour. Enter from the south slope of the acropolis and set off on your leisurely walking tour of some of the world’s finest monuments.

Along the way, listen as your guide shares knowledgeable insight into the citadel’s ruins including excavation details. Visit the Theater of Dionysus, an amphitheater that is arguably the birthplace of performing arts.

Perch yourself on a stone seat to imagine the sights and sounds experienced by ancient theatergoers who came to watch plays by Greek writers Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.

Also, pass the Odeon of Herodes Atticus; the theater is still used today during the Athens Festival from May to October. Find peace and quiet at an Asclepius, a healing temple that honored the god of medicine Asclepius, before the Parthenon.

Wander around the temple to learn about how it was constructed for the goddess Athena. Once you familiarize yourself with the site's classical architecture, head indoors to the New Acropolis Museum for a brief break and refreshments (at own expense) in the cafe.

Ranked one of the top 5 museums in the world, the New Acropolis Museum boasts collections of statues and other relics of everyday life in several galleries. In the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis, the glass floor occasionally reveals an archaeological excavation site.

We did this on our 3rd day in Athens, and we're glad we did - it was a lot of walking and made for a long day. While it was nice to have the audio headset so you could hear the tour guide along the way, we found it to be a long day. The Parthenon takes surprisingly little time to explore, so the museum is a must to make it worth your while. That said, we were surprised how much was in the museum but how little we actually saw with the Guide. She spent a LOT of time on very particular objects and then skipped entire sections of the museum. The stories and history were nice to hear, but at the same time, it felt way too long after being in the sun all morning exploring the Parthenon. Make sure you're well rested before trying this activity - it's a long day!

Our tour guide Dionysus was AMAZING! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. The four hour tour seemed intimidating but with Dionysus the time flew by. He never moved too fast and always made sure the group was together. His tour was engaging and fun, and I didn’t want it to end! Thank you for a great experience :)

I definitely recommend taking a guide to the acropolis. I would have missed out on the history and the specific history if I had just wandered around myself. We did both the acropolis tour and then the museum. We were tired after the acropolis so did not spend as much time at the Acropolis museum as we would have liked solely because our feet were tired. If I had to do again, I would take a break between the two so I could spend more time in the museum feeling refreshed. The tickets are separate. The Guide was phenomenal.
