Explore the towering presence of the Acropolis and its history on a 3-hour scholar-led tour of the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum. Gain a deeper understanding of Athenian society and the central position that the Acropolis has played in it.
What to Expect
During this 3-hour walk you’ll have the opportunity to look closely at the Acropolis and its fundamental role in the city. Your scholar/guide will break down its archaeological history, from construction to ruin, and from to discovery to reconstruction.

You’ll learn about the differences in the various types of architecture (such as Doric and Ionic) and how the ancient Greeks planned, designed, and executed these amazing structures.

Your visit will cover the main buildings on the Acropolis, including the Erechtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Propylaia, and the Parthenon. Your guide will spend considerable time talking about the role of religion in Athenian culture and will cover the sweep of ancient Greek history.

During the walk you’ll also visit the stunning new Acropolis Museum, designed by Bernard Tschumi and opened in 2009.

Meeting Point

We meet at the entrance of the New Acropolis Museum, located at 15 Dionysiou Areopagitou Street in the southern shadow of the Acropolis. Our specific meeting point is in front of the statue of the owl (symbol of Athena) located just outside the entrance to the museum. (Open in Google Maps)
