Full description
Travel back in time on an informative and fun tour of the Acropolis of Athens. Be guided by a field expert and licensed archaeologist. Discover the UNESCO World Heritage site through a journey into history, mythology, and storytelling. Continue with a visit to the Acropolis Museum, which has been ranked as one of the top museums in the world. All the original surviving masterpieces from the temples of the Acropolis are displayed with the use of natural light. Excavations are also visible under glass floors and walkways. The museum was designed by the renowned Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi and the notable Greek architect Michalis Photiadis. Visit the Acropolis hill. See the Dionysus Theater, where famous ancient dramas and tragedies were first performed. Walk around the stunning Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the sanctuary of the healing god Asclepius. On the top of the hill, visit the Propylea Temple of Nike and the Erechtheion Temple. See the Parthenon, which is the symbol of democracy and western civilization. Dating back to 5th century, these monuments are testimonials of the glorious ancient Athens and the Golden Age of Pericles. At the Acropolis Museum, explore the ground floor where exhibited artifacts reveal facets of the Athenian daily life. Get to know wedding customs, children's favorite toys, healing techniques, and religious practices. On the first floor, stand at a breathing distance from the mysterious archaic statues of the 6th century, which once adorned the Acropolis. Be fascinated as you walk next to the Caryatids and huge pieces of the Acropolis entrance. On the final floor, next to the breathtaking view of the Acropolis, admire the original unique in concept and artistic excellence Parthenon frieze.

Our guide Alexia was amazing, she was so friendly and knowledgeable about all the history and sights!! We had a decent size group of about 12 people but she did an incredible job of taking us through the Acropolis and keeping us away from other large groups so we could get great photos for our memories. The included earpieces made hearing her speaking very easy even if you’re a little separated from the group. Don’t hesitate, book this tour, it is well worth the time and a highlight of a trip to Athens!

We had a small group tour booking that ultimately turned into a private tour. Alexis greeted us by name and told us that it would just be the three of us, so we started to the museum early. She took us through the museum in a way that we would see less crowds, and could focus on what she had to say. She knows her history like no other. She answered all of our questions and never have I received such knowledge from a museum. Then we walked towards the Acropolis, Alexis always took the time to put us in the shade and away from crowds to allow for us to focus on her word, not the noises around. She always took us to the best places for photos and took many for us, for this we are very grateful. After the tour she walked us towards the town square, and gave us great suggestions for lunch and later.

Our guide, Alexia, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and kept things interesting, fun, and educational. She kept the pace of the group well and stopped us strategically to show us monuments and stay in the shade. At the end she also gave us some great locations and recommendations for food. Would definitely book again…VERY glad that I didn’t just walk through and view myself. The added context and local flavor really made the experience.
