Take a day out of your sightseeing in Athens to visit the awe-inspiring Meteora monasteries on this 14-hour excursion. Catch the train for Kalambaka at 7:20 AM from the Athens railway station and admire the beauty of the countryside along the way. At around 11:30 AM you’ll arrive in Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of majestic grey rocky cliffs that are crowned by the monasteries of Meteora, which have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. When you arrive in Kalambaka, an English-speaking driver will be waiting for you, holding a signboard with your name on it. You’ll be shown to the vehicle that will take you to the monasteries, where you’ll have around 4-hours to visit 3 of them, as well as the hermit caves of Badovas. At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred back to Kalambaka, and you’ll have some time to explore the town and enjoy a light lunch (not included in the tour price). The Meteora was a beautiful site to see. The train ride there and back was long so bring a book or other entertainment with you. Once I figured out how to get to the train station everything else was easy. Nick was a wonderful tour guide, I learned so much and it is impossible to take a bad picture there. This does require physical activity walking up an incline or lots of stairs

The train ride is a long one but the trip is sooooo worth it! There just isn’t anyway to truly describe the monasteries located anywhere from 1000-1800 feet off the ground on stone columns. Be prepared for a lot of hills and stairs to climb but they are amazing. Our guide, Maria, was fantastic! Her personal stories and knowledge of the area was so enjoyable. Our driver navigated roads I wouldn’t want to with ease and safety. We highly recommend!

I enjoy the train ride it was on time both way, and the Maria the guide was expecting for us in our arrival to Kalambaka. We visit three monasteries and she was very helpful with everything. Very nice trip to Meteora is a beautiful place, very hot weather but the view is amazing. We arrive around 9:30pm to Athens very tired but the trip was amazing! Not recommended if you are planning to go with kids, this is not for them.
