very cool to see these. The only downside was that we had rain and fog which obstructed some views (but that's on one's fault!). The directions to get to the train don't make it exactly clear where you are supposed to go. For this particular trip, you use Larissis Station as a good GPS point but you don't actually go down into that Metro station, the platform to catch the train for this trip is actually next to/behind the Larissis station. I went through the coffee shop that is there to get to the information desk that told me which platform to use. I recommend adding that detail to the directions for others.

The scenery was beautiful! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and enjoyable. Please note: there are MANY stairs involved in reaching some of the monasteries, so if you have knee issues you will only be able to easily access one of the monasteries. It did not ruin the experience for me- it is still great! Also, I would recommend staying the night- the town looked adorable.

Fantastic trip. If you have a day to spare while you are in Athens I would recommend this trip. It is a long day, 4 hours on a train each way but worth it. We had 4 full days in Athens so we had seen what we wanted to see in 3 days around Athens. For something completely different take this trip, fabulous and the guide was funny and gave us plenty of info. Be prepared it is a long day, but worth it.
