Full description
Spend a full day taking a guided tour of one of the most magnificent sites in Eygpt: the Abu Simbel temples. In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby in Aswan and take you to the airport. From there, head towards the most magnificent landscape of ancient Egypt. These massive rock reliefs are considered the grandest and most beautiful temples commissioned during Ramses’ reign, and some of the most beautiful in Egypt. This iconic site is situated on the western banks of the Nile and was dedicated to Ramses the Great and his queen Nefertari. Accompany your guide on an exploration of these temples and learn fascinating historical facts about the site, including the reason why they were dismantled and re-located in the 1960s. Twice a year, a beautiful phenomenon takes place: witness the sun shining into the holy sanctum which lights up the colossal statues of Ptah, Amun, Ta, and Ramses. In the interior, discover 1000 years of temple arts, petroglyphs, and hieroglyphs. You’ll also explore the many other small and large temples located in the area.   After you’ve taken in the magnificence of this site to the fullest, your guide will drop you off at the Abu Simbel Airport for your return to your accommodation in Aswan.

The afternoon before our trip, we were contacted by the company and advised that the flight to Abu Simbel had been cancelled, presumably through no fault of the trip provider. However, it was odd that weather was given as the purported reason, and the weather was absolutely fine. In any event, we were going to cancel the trip, but the company offered to drive us to/from Abu Simbel with our guide (and provide us with a refund of the cost of the flight). After considering the lengthy trip, we still decided to go ahead do the car ride down to Abu Simbel. We appreciated the company offering this alternative option. We were ready for the pickup at the designated 4:30am pickup time, but the driver and guide were about 10 minutes late, which was not great as we were in an unfamiliar area. in any event, it worked out fine. Overall, we had a very nice trip with our guide and he was very helpful. The drive was pleasant, and went by relatively quickly. And Abu Simbel was amazing!
