Westport: Introduction to Sailing

Learn to sail on a Hobie T2 Catamaran or a Laser Pico in a 6-hour course. No prior experience is required. By the end of the course, you will be able to describe why you should wear a Personal Flotation Device, know the different types of PFD’s and their suitability for each waterborne activity. Identify which direction the wind is blowing from. As both helm and as crew, reach across the wind, stop the boat, turn the boat through the wind (Tack), help balance the boat, understand Trimming and its effect on the boat, raise and lower the dagger or centerboard and rudder, and capsize recovery. Explain why it is important to stay with a capsized or inverted boat.
