Braga Private Walking Tour

Braga wonders with the charm of an ancient as well as modern city. The name stems from the Proto-Celtic word “Bracara”, home of the Bracari Celtic tribe, who lived in hillside forts known as the “Castro culture” until these were subdued by the Roman empire. The city itself was founded as “Bracara Augusta” in 20 BC, during the rule of Emperor Augustus, to later pass into Visigothic hands, when it played an important part in the Christianization of the Iberian Peninsula. The Christian “Reconquista”, was the spiritual centre of Iberia, until the rise of Santiago de Compostela. The capital of the Minho region of Portugal is today a demonstration of the perfect blend of the beauty of the Romanesque and Portuguese eras in the architectural structure. Engage in the journey of an elegant town laced with ancient narrow lanes and a splendid array of baroque churches. We will take you to an exploration from the Arch of the New Gate to the Convento dos Congregados Church. With this tour, you will get to know the turbulent historic stories surrounding this city!

The app is really great, intuitive to use, the navigation function is very precise, the texts/audios very informative. You can always jump back and forth between the sights, the corresponding photos and the maps. You can choose your own pace, or "continue" the next day if necessary, or determine the order of the tour yourself. If you have any questions or technical problems, you can get help/answers directly via WhatsApp. If the tour was not self-guided, I might have asked the guide further questions, but it definitely works without one. And the app is also available in several languages. Unfortunately, not yet in German. However, that is currently being implemented and we have already received a "preliminary version" so that we can already use the texts in German. Here too, the company was super flexible and helpful. The advantage here: We had to cancel due to the weather, but were at least able to do the tour "offline" at Horel, with videos and photos. Good replacement!

I had the most informative, friendly, engaging tour of Guimarães and Braga provided by the Insight Tours in Porto. Rui Rodrigues is deeply knowledgeable about Portugal history. I learned so much. Not only about the Guimarães and Braga, but Porto as well. In addition. I enjoyed the Portuguese lunch, Port wine, and sweets. Strongly recommend.

It indicates several interesting points outside the tourist areas, providing historical information about each site. It can be downloaded for offline use. It was worth it.

Very informative guide and a great way to discover Braga on foot

Inexpensive and yet complete. Do at your own pace.
