What People Are Saying About Aquitaine

Fantastic guide and a good taste of the area

Our guide, Donya, was fantastic. She was friendly and very informative, answering any questions we had. The size of the group was good (25). The wineries were really nice, each had their own approaches and the lunch was delicious!

A sensational day of ancient highlights both under and above ground

Firstly, I must start by praising Marion, our guide, whose knowledge and enthusiasm made the day so special. We started with the cave paintings at Pech Merle and were astounded by the beauty of drawings that were almost 30,000 years old and yet seemed so fresh. It made you wonder about the dedication and determination of someone so long ago who must have overcome so many obstacles to record their view of part of their world. Then off to Saint Cirq Lapopie, a village that is lost in time. From early beginnings in the 8th and 9th centuries it now consists of a collection of medieval houses that appear like a film set - but a look at the stones and timbers that make up these buildings just reinforces their antiquity. Then to the medieval bridge at Cahors - I didn't know quite what to expect but the actual bridge is breathtaking - how such an immense construction could have been undertaken in the 13th/14th century with only limited construction equipment is hard to believe.

Great overview of the region and its history

This tour was great! We learned a lot from our very knowledgeable guide, Annaliese. Her English is excellent. She helped us understand the region and its history (architecture, politics, etc.), as well as the transitions from one era to another and to present day with anecdotes and humor and solid information. It had rained a lot and the river was too high for the boat ride, so we were able to tour the castle of Josephine Baker (Chateau des Milandes). She paced the activities very well and gave us time to explore on our own. She also gave us good tips for continuing on our own later as well as suggestions for places to eat.
