From Khao Lak: James Bond Sunset & Canoe Adventure Tour

10. From Khao Lak: James Bond Sunset & Canoe Adventure Tour

We were picked up in Khao Lak at 10:30 AM, followed by a roughly 1.5-hour drive to the harbor where we met our tour guide. The spacious boat accommodated us comfortably alongside 30 other passengers and featured amenities like two toilets and a sun deck. A light lunch was served soon after we embarked, consisting of tuna sandwiches, spring rolls, yellow noodles with chicken and vegetables, and a vegetarian option. Beverages like cola and water were available throughout the day. Our guide introduced us to Phang Nga Bay and explained the day's flexible itinerary, which would adjust based on tidal conditions. Our first stop was at Koh Hong, known as "Room Island," where we were led by friendly and humorous paddle guides. They took us through narrow entrances into a labyrinth of hidden lagoons surrounded by rugged limestone cliffs, offering stunning views and photo opportunities. Later, we had a chance to jump from the boat to cool off and tried our hands at paddling, which resulted in a lot of laughter. The onboard atmosphere was lively, with guests from Germany, Switzerland, the USA, New Zealand, and France. As the bay quieted down, we moved on to Koh Panack. Our paddle guide, led us through a cave passage into a hidden lagoon reminiscent of Jurassic Park, paddling through mangrove forests and past rugged limestone cliffs. Our next destination was the famous James Bond Rock, which was nearly empty at the time, making the site even more impressive without the usual crowds. Back on the boat, a lavish dinner awaited us, followed by a spectacular sunset that turned the bay a deep red. The special feature of the tour was the bioluminescent plankton. In the darkness, we boarded canoes again to experience the magical glow of the plankton in the water, which sparkled like glowing coins. After a half-hour tour with the plankton, we returned to the boat. On the ride back to the harbor, we enjoyed the cool breeze on the sun deck and admired our photos. We reached the harbor by 8:30 PM and were back in Khao Lak by 10:00 PM. This tour offered a unique blend of adventure, nature, and relaxation, leaving us with unforgettable memories of Phang Nga Bay’s hidden treasures.

What people are saying about Ao Po Pier

A perfectly organized tour! The trip on the big boat was very pleasant, and drinks and snacks were available at all times. The guide and his entire team were extremely committed and friendly. Lunch was also better than expected. Unfortunately we couldn't go to one of the stops, but the last two places and the canoe trip in particular were very interesting in a breathtaking natural setting. Of course there are a lot of tourists everywhere, but it was still okay for me.

Overall, it was an amazing day trip! Pick-up was on time. The guides were good and helpful, the places were really nice, crowded but not very overcrowded. The launch was also decent. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see amazing islands and enjoy the boat ride and doesn’t just want it to be as quick as possible and just swim.

If you’re trying to decide if this is worth the extra cost compared to some of the other tours, this was definitely worth it. At least on my trip, it wasn’t too packed with lots of space on the boat, the boat itself was lovely, and everything was well organized. Recommend it!

So much so, I enjoyed my family and myself. To be done again I hope because this is so magnificent. This excursion was not for swimming but more for visiting the caves, which was simply magnificent.

There was enough space for everyone. We spent a relaxing, wonderful day on the boat.
