It was the most difficult thing I have ever done. But at the end of the day, I didn’t give up and that’s all that matters. It was worth getting to the top and seeing the beautiful views.
BRING A GAITER/ BANDANA AND GOGGLES lol the hike is extremely dusty!! The tour company itself was good, basic accommodations & food but I didn’t mind that as I only cared about doing the hike itself. Definitely bring your favorite snacks & plenty of water. Do not overpack! You are only there for one night & this was honestly the hardest hike I have ever done, and I’m an avid hiker. It gets cold in the tents as well so bring warm pajamas. 10/10 views we got to see fire coming out of the volcano and a crazy red moon!

Know before you go
- The hike requires a good level of fitness, agility, and intermediate hiking skills, as the trail is remarkably steep. All operators follow the same standard route.
- During your first day of hiking, there will be three bathroom breaks (please bring your own toilet paper)
- Bundle up and bring sunglasses, spare socks, suitable hiking shoes, hiking gear, sunscreen, toiletries, a flashlight, a pillow, extra water, a 45 to 55 liter backpack, a simple raincoat and a waterproof bag is recommended. Although you can rent your flashlight and backpack before you start your tour, being prepared is more cost-effective
- As this is a shared excursion, the group will walk alongside at a steady pace. Your cooperation is important to ensure that everyone has a great experience
- Climbing pole (if you don't have it, you can rent it from us for Q50 quetzals)
- You should bring 3 liters of water for the hike
