There are few cycling experiences that can compare to riding beneath towering fig trees and experiencing the thousand years of Khmer history at Angkor. Let the Cambodian cycle and temple guides lead you on a comprehensive 5-day visit to the area.
What to Expect
The ancient Khmer capital of Angkor is one of the most impressive sights in Asia. For much of its 600 years its regional power was unmatched, and under a number of its god-kings, such as Jayavarman VII, the artistic achievements of the Khmer kingdom were unrivaled.
On this 5-day Angkor experience you’ll travel with a Cambodian cycle guide, and an experienced temple guide will follow in a support vehicle.
Although the temples are the main attraction, another interesting item of note is that Angkor is at the heart of a bustling Khmer community. The town of Siem Reap is close by, and there are dozens of farming communities scattered around the historical park. Ordinary Cambodian people go about their everyday life in this extraordinary place.
You’ll be picked up at the Siem Reap airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free.
You’ll start your cycling trip with a ride to the Angkor temple complex before heading off on the grand circuit. Stop at each major temple area, and then at sunset you’ll return to the temples by car for the spectacular views from Phnom Bakheng.
Enter the temple complex by a quiet gate and then continue your ride into the countryside. Turn off the main tourist road to Banteay Srei, visiting Banteay Samre along the way.
Today you’ll leave the crowds behind and head to the small village of Roulous, home to some of the earliest permanent structures built by the Khmers, and then on to the floating village of Kampong Phluck. After a boat tour of the village you’ll cycle or drive back to Siem Reap.
You’ll have free time until your transfer to the airport.
