From Paracas: Ballestas Islands & Paracas National Reserve

2. From Paracas: Ballestas Islands & Paracas National Reserve

After a convenient hotel pickup from either Paracas or Pisco, head to the Marina Turistica to start your adventure. Board a speedboat with your bilingual, Spanish and English-speaking guide, and jet out onto the sea towards the stunning Ballestas. Along the way, stop at the Paracas Peninsula to see the Candelabro, an enigmatic glyph carved into the side of the island — whose purpose, and creator, remain a mystery to this day. Afterwards, continue onwards towards the marine sanctuary of Ballestas. Gaze upon the rocky shores, filled to the brim with sunbathing seals, and penguins diving into the turbid waters to hunt underneath the surface — all alongside other beautiful specimens, like majestic pelicans, and colorful blue-footed boobies. You’ll then return to the Marina Turistica for a drive to Paracas National Reserve. An almost alien landscape, the Paracas National Reserve is composed of vast, sprawling deserts and high sandstone cliffs directly next to the bright, blue ocean. Driving through the reserve, see the Cathedral, an area where a vast rock formation once stood before being destroyed by a cataclysmic earthquake. Your tour caps things off with visits to Playa Roja and Lagunillas Beach, two stunning maroon-sand beaches that are truly one-of-a-kind. Having seen some of the world's most unique natural features, flora, and fauna, you'll hop back in the car for a convenient transfer back to your hotel.

What people are saying about Andes Mountains, Peru

The BEST highlight of our Peru vacation. Everything from airport pick-up, boat ride to the lodge and the activities were well planned. Our guide Franklin was awesome and we had so much fun. Our flight to Puerto Maldonado was delayed due to Lima airport incident but the team was very accommodating, planned the activities we missed during the next 2 days. The paradise amazonas lodge is blissful and well maintained. We are definitely coming back for another amazon visit with them.

Highly recommend this tour for sacred valley. The tour was well organized from the start to finish. Pick-up location, timing, tour plans and drop-off were well communicated. Lunch was good. Our tour guide - Mijael was very knowledgeable, fluent in English and friendly. The roads to moray and maras salt mine wasn't paved and was bumpy. However, the van organized was so comfortable and suspension was good. My husband has a bad back and he had no problems after the whole day tour.

Fantastic experience. Our guide was a mine of information. When we were thinking we were to be unlucky and not see a condor he managed to pick a spot which resulted in us seeing 4. One obviously enjoyed the attention and performed, swooping and gliding over our group. Our guide was always on time for pick ups and helped when people were not coping with the altitude- highly recommend.

I absolutely recommend this ! It's action and culture at once, really fun day out and the guides were so nice and did a great job!the views are stunning! It will get dusty so come prepared, wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty!

Pretty comprehensive tour. Guide was bilingual and very patient with questions.
