Enjoy a guided tour of the historic, UNESCO-listed Fortress of Catholic Monarchs with a knowledgeable local guide. Learn about its history, visit a selection of rooms in the fortress, and take a guided walk through the gardens as well.
What to Expect
Explore the building that was the residence of the Christian monarchs and subsequently the site of the Courts of the Holy Offices, a civil prison, and finally a military prison. It stands atop the remains of the former caliph's palace.
The Fortress is situated in the midst of magnificent gardens, which you’ll also visit on this 90-minute tour. See the Avenue of the Monarchs, featuring statues of all the monarchs who had connections to the palace-fortress.
Declared a Historical Monument in 1931, the Fortress is also part of the area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994.
Since 1986, the gardens have been protected by town planning laws.
