The Amsterdam Museum is open daily 10:00AM to 5:00PM, though closed on April 27th (King's Day) and December 25th (Christmas). It doesn't open until noon on January 1st and closes an hour early on December 5th, 24th, and 31st. Some generous concessions are offered on ticket prices and entry is free with the I Amsterdam City Card or the Museumkaart.
The Amsterdam Museum is inaccessible by car but is just a short walk from Dam Square. The closest tram stops are Spui (lines 1, 2, and 5) and Rokin (4, 9, 14, 16, 24 and 25).
The auto set was such a benefit to our 11 year old daughter. She learned a lot and kept busy. That gave my husband and I time to read all the informative information and really view the art. It was a highlight of Amsterdam for us! Buying tickets online was so quick and easy! No waiting in line! If you must take a larger purse or backpack you’ll have to check it. No cost but the line was long. Go all the way down to the furthest row. The wait was shorter. We spent 3.5 hours and felt like we saw everything.
The planning of the presentation of Van Gogh and his contemporaries and influencers is done very well. The special exhibition with Hockney is excellent. From a practical experience. Visitors spend a lot of time with their backpacks and garderobe. It is not well organized and is chaotic and cumbersome. The prices of goods and items in the shops are not good value for money.
An amazing building with enough space to avoid queuing at each exhibit. Works are beautifully curated to feel like a progression through VG's life and style. Café and shop are great value and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I'm only sorry I didn't leave time to visit the Hockney exhibition as well.
An amazing collection of Vincent Van Gogh’s whole life from his birth to his tragic end. Very well displayed with good explanations. The audio guide was definitely worth paying for, explaining a lot . We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The shop has a wide of Van Gogh themed items across a range of prices.
It is a very well planned and beautifully laid out exhibit of not only the artisit’s work but the corresponding influences both personal and artistic. Many times however his works were difficult to see because of terrible glare from very poorly designed lighting.
