Good but insufficient time.

There's a lot to see and I think that it's impossible to do it all in a day. I suggest only the Portuguese synagogue plus food and drinks in the Historical Museum restaurant plus one of the other exhibitions. The ticket needs to be extended to cover 2 days, not one.

Your ticket is valid at four sites and each is worth exploring. The Jewish Historical Museum is housed mainly in two former synagogues and had many interesting exhibits about Judaism and Jewish life in the Netherlands. The Portuguese Synagogue is across the street. It was interesting to tour this historic building, which is still in use as a synagogue. Nearby is the National Holocaust Memorial, in a former theatre that was used as a deportation center during WWII. Across the street is the National Holocaust Museum. Although not yet complete, you can see a number of exhibits as a preview.

Impressive!

My husband and I ended a river cruise in Amsterdam. We then had one day in Amsterdam where we were free to do what we wanted. We knew before we left the states that we wanted to spend time in the Jewish cultural quarter, so we bought the full day tickets. We spend hours in the Joods History Museum. I have never been in any museum that was as impressive as this one. I truly enjoyed learning the history of the Jews in Amsterdam. We did not go to the Holocaust Museum because my husband has very hard time of dealing with the history of what happened to his people during the Holocaust. My husband of 50 years is Jewish and I am Catholic. I also know it would’ve been very painful for me to see. My husband of 50 years is Jewish, and I am not.
