Full description

Explore the Museum Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam and experience how Rembrandt once lived. In the homely setting of the museum on the Jodenbreestraat, get to know the man behind his art. Discover the vast collection of works throughout the museum, including 5 new museum spaces which have been recently added, including an epilogue room, an etching attic, and a third exhibition room.

Experience the new multimedia tour which makes Rembrandt’s house and the 17th century come to life. Follow Rembrandt’s life story, from his arrival as an ambitious celebrity artist to his forced departure due to an accumulation of debts.

See a variety of daily etching and painting demonstrations in the museum. In the exact place where Rembrandt created his masterpieces, in his studio, discover how he made his paint. In the new etching attic, learn more about Rembrandt’s etching techniques. From 18 March to 11 June 2023, The Art of Drawing exhibition can be seen in the Rembrandt House Museum. For the first time in Europe, you can see 74 drawings by Rembrandt, Bol, and Maes from The Peck Collection (Ackland Art Museum, USA) up close, on the spot where Rembrandt himself made his drawings.

If you have some interest in Rembrandts work and life you will live it. Others can visit to see that eras lifestyle, house plan, furniture. None authentic but extremely well recreated. The audioguide is great. And some very interesting paintings can be seen around the house too.

Really enjoyed our visit. The audio guide is included in admission and is really worthwhile. Initially the rooms downstairs were a bit crowded but they thinned out quickly and you certainly get a feel for how the house might have been at the time he lived and taught there and also an insight into his personal and family life. There are only a few of his actual paintings but still very interesting examples and demonstrations about art techniques including varieties of medium and how to make paint.

The experience was truly memorable. It’s one for the books. We were happy with our experience. The only thing I would say that needs a little improvement would be - it’s helpful if there our signage’s outside the rooms so it is less confusing. But other than that, it was great.
