1. Amritsar: Small Group Sightseeing Tour with Wagah Border

Explore the magnificent sights in Amritsar under the guidance of an expert local guide. From your hotel, head first to the famous Golden Temple, one of the most vital structures and key landmarks in the city. After you offer prayers at the Golden Temple, you'll visit the Langar Hall (Community Kitchen) and witness how food is made for thousands of pilgrims who arrive daily at this sacred location. This is followed by a trip to Jallianwala Bagh where the infamous massacre took place under the troops of the British Indian Army. Afterwards, visit the only Museum dedicated to the horrific Partition of India in 1947. You will explore the different exhibitions, with both video and photographic displays providing you with the stories behind the events. Expressive paintings depicting these harrowing times are also on display in the museum. Finally, head out to the Wagah Border and visit the historic Grand Trunk Road, the only link between India and Pakistan in 1999. During the ceremony, you will watch the soldiers of India and Pakistan put on a show of sorts, with the lowering of both flags and a handshake between two nations. At the end of the ceremony, you will be dropped back to your hotel.

What people are saying about Amritsar

The tour was good, we were two participants. Transport by car. Morning to Hotel Pick up Tour as announced of Jallianwala Bagh and Golden Temple complex. The Partition Museum is usually also visited, but is closed on Monday. Guidance was quick and rather superficial. In the Golden Temple complex one of the guides will also lead you through the halls where the food for the pilgrims is served and the kitchen. There was no time to go into the Golden Temple itself because the queues were very long and the waiting time would have been over 1 hour. Then lunch in a very good restaurant with a wide choice, including specialties from Punjab. Then 40 mins. Drive to border with Pakistan. The border closing ceremony is a spectacle well worth seeing, so it was worth it. The guide called me before the pick up to coordinate. So helpful if you give a phone number when booking.
