Take an unforgettable private tour of Jerash and Ajloun in the north of Jordan. Explore the Roman ruins at Jerash, including the Corinthian Column, Hadrian’s Arch and the Hippodrome. Enjoy captivating views from the 12th-Century Castle of Ajloun.
What to Expect
This full-day private tour from Amman takes in 2 of north Jordan’s most impressive sights. You will travel in an air-conditioned vehicle and enjoy the services of a private guide as you head to the Roman ruins of Jerash, and complete your day at the magnificent hill town of Ajloun.
Depart in the morning for Jerash, approximately 29 miles (48 kilometers) north of Amman. One of the best examples of a Roman provincial city in the entire Middle East, you will visit the spectacular oval Forum, stroll down the long colonnaded Roman street, see the lush Nymphaeum that was consecrated to the nymphs, and explore the Temple of Artemis.
Excavations have demonstrated that the city was settled as long ago as the Bronze Age, but it is the Greco-Roman remains that make it one of Jordan’s most impressive archaeological sites.
Next, move on to Ajloun and visit the great 12th-Century Islamic castle that was built around 1184-1185 AD. Built by the famous Islamic leader Salah al-Din, the massive fortress is one of the very few that were built to protect the country against the Crusaders.
Once upon a time it occupied a large stretch of the Jordan Valley. Today it provides superb panoramas from Auf Mountain.
You will have the services of an English speaking guide to give you information about the sites for approximately 1-hour.
Take in the views and explore the ruins, partly caused by Mongol invaders and partly from natural occurrences, such as the earthquakes of 1837 and 1927.
Your guide will then take you back to Amman, driving through the slopes of its 19 lovely hills.
