Visit the modern and old parts of the Capital of Jordan and the Biblical Sites of Madaba & Mount Nebo, overlooking the Holyland and the Jordan River
What to Expect
Pick up by your English speaking driver then start exploring Ammanعمان , the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Known as the site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon in the Bibel and also the ancient city of Philadelphia in the Greco-Roman times. A city that has an interesting mix of ancient and modern ... Ammonites, Greek, Roman, Byzantines and Moslems left their footprints layer upon layer in and around the city. You will visit the Citadel, Museum, Amphitheatre, Folklore Museum, & King Abdullah’s Mosque, the old and new part of Amman .
Then drive along the 5,000-year-old King's way which is one of the most memorable journeys in the Holy Land, passing through a string of ancient sites. The first city you come upon is Madaba مادبا, "the City of Mosaics". Madaba's chief attraction in the contemporary Greek Orthodox Church of St. George is a wonderfully vivid, sixth-century Byzantine mosaic map showing Jerusalem, Jordan River, Bethlehem and other holy sites.
Afterwards drive 9km to Mount Nebo, جبل نيبو , the memorial of Moses, the presumed site of the prophet's death and burial place. A small, square church was built on the spot by early Byzantine Christians-and later expanded into a vast complex. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan. The West Bank city of Jericho is usually visible from the summit, as is Jerusalem on a very clear day.
