Join us for a whale watching tour in Alta Fjord and experience Northern Norway's most majestic creatures up close. A winter tour in Alta Fjord can be a magical experience. Yes, it may be cold, but it might be worth it for a chance to catch sight of whales. Recently, whales have appeared in Alta Fjord. The whales have migrated further north, allowing us to observe them in our area. The two most common species in Alta Fjord are sperm whales and killer whales (orcas), but there are also good opportunities to see porpoises and hourglass dolphins. You will be amazed by the playful and curious behavior of the youngest whales. Please note: There is no guarantee we always find whales or if the weather is optimal to spot whales. If we don't see any whales within two hours of the tour the captain can suggest changing the tour to a King Crab Tour if the weather conditions allows it, or we can keep searching for whales.

Know before you go

  • Policy on rescheduling tours due to weather conditions:
  • If adverse weather conditions occur at the time and date of a booked tour, you have the option to either cancel the tour with a full refund or reschedule it to a new date.
  • Should you choose to reschedule rather than cancel, and a new date and time are agreed upon between you and the captain, this new arrangement becomes binding. If you does not attend the tour at the rescheduled date and time, the original booking remains valid, and payment for the tour will still be required in full.
  • If you are late for the tour, the boat will wait max 10 minutes after the tour's starting time and then leave for the tour. You will then be reported as a no-show.
  • The minimum required number of participants are two. If you book for yourself, you can pay for two adult tickets or the tour is cancelled unless more people book the same tour at a later date. If you pay for two adult tickets, you will be refunded the extra ticket if more people join.

When we arrived the guide/captain said that the weather is not good and we would have to come back early. We were told that if it’s not safe the boot would not leave. Why wasn’t the tour cancelled on the spot then if it’s not safe? Considering we paid so much money we don’t think this is fair and we would like to have seen to get a refund on this trip. But the tour operator has not responded to our email that we had sent over a week ago Also in the booking it said that there are snacks, tea and coffee included. There wasn’t anything offered to us at all. In addition, it was strange that only one responsible person was on the boat and we felt nervous during the instruction on how to behave in an emergency as there were too many instructions to remember. In an actual emergency we would not have been able to execute these as it was too much information for an inexperienced person.
