From Alta: Small Group Whale Watching by RIB

From Alta: Small Group Whale Watching by RIB

In winter, whales come to the herring-rich fjords in northern Norway to hunt. This is a unique opportunity to experience the whales up close while exploring the beautiful Fjords of northern Norway. You will get to enjoy the beautiful winter skies, while surrounded by mountains and the fjords wildlife. We adjust the start point of this trip to where the whales have last been seen to maximize your chance of seeing them. This can mean that we first have to drive for up to 1 hour to get to our harbor. Once on the boat we will make our way out into the fjords to look for humpback whales and Orcas. We will keep a safe distance and turn off our boat engines to minimize the disturbance to the whales. The whales are just as curious about visitors as we are about them, so they will most likely come and swim around our boat. Please note that while we try our best, we can not guarantee that we will actually see whales on the trip. The season start and end date can be adjusted according to whale migration patterns. We conduct this tour in small groups of maximum 12 participants only to ensure a great and personal experience for all of our guests.

The tour was great! We were lucky enough to have found a no-moon, no-clouds day, and at these latitudes that's basically all you need. Our guide Stephen took us to 4 different spots, away from the city lights and based on the cloud coverage prediction. in all 4 spots we were able to see the northern lights, brightening up the sky and dancing above our heads. Fundamental were also the warm clothes and boots that were provided to us, which made sure we could stay outside as much as we wanted in each stop without freezing. The transport was comfortable, the drive felt safe in every part, and Stephen delighted us throughout the trip with stories and facts about alta and the Finnmark region. Overall a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend!

So much to like! Rose from Adventyr, who transported us, was friendly, knowledgable and great at her job! We thoroughly enjoyed her company. Linda, at Gargia Lodge was fantastic. She suited us up and then instructed us beautifully. Once outside, she watched over everyone with care. Along with Adam, she ensured that we got the best out of our experience, as we drove our dogs through the beautiful countryside. They obviously love their dogs and their jobs! Thank you for enabling a true highlight of our trip to Norway!!

It's been a great experience, with a very nice and knowledgeable guide, who explained a lot about the Sami culture and the life of the reindeers. Feeding them was the highlight, but I left from there with some more knowledge about a culture which I did not know much about before. Highly recommend!

Reliable transfer. Snowmobiles in very good condition. Friendly, competent guide who made a lot of effort with everyone. Fantastic long tour across the Alta plateau. Beautiful landscape in brilliant sunshine. It couldn't have been better.

An excellent small party cruise. relaxed pace to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
