Amsterdam: Allard Pierson Heritage Collections Entry Ticket

Amsterdam: Allard Pierson Heritage Collections Entry Ticket

The permanent presentation shows the interaction between the ancient and modern world and tells the story of humankind’s unbridled curiosity, from the origins of writing to early industrial book production, to Assyrian merchants and theatre makers in Amsterdam. Egyptian hieroglyphs, Greek pottery and Roman glass, Medieval manuscripts, 17th-century atlases and books, cookbooks and an extensive collection of plaster casts of famous classical statues — these are just examples of the items on display at the Allard Pierson. These heritage collections are an inexhaustible source of knowledge and stories. Temporary Exhibition: 6 OCTOBER - 25 FEBRUARY - FACE TO FACE: THE PEOPLE BEHIND MUMMY PORTRAITS Face to Face: The People Behind Mummy Portraits is the first exhibition about ancient Egyptian mummy portraits in the Netherlands. Besides items from our own collection, the show includes masterworks from the Louvre, the J. Paul Getty Museum and other international collections. Mummy portraits, often painted on wooden panels, were made during the Roman period in Egypt, from the 1st to the 4th century AD, and placed over the faces of mummified persons. They are also known as Fayum portraits, after the region where most works were excavated. Some 38 portraits from all over the world have been gathered for this exhibition. They bring us face to face with just as many individuals who had themselves immortalized almost 2000 years ago. In Face to Face, visitors not only get acquainted with the portrayed individuals but also with the creators, descendants, followers, collectors, archaeologists, and researchers who play a role in relation to these portraits.

We took this pass during our 3-day stay, it's really a must. Very easy to use, you must activate it the day you arrive in Amsterdam. The pass was very beneficial to us, and very advantageous. Everything is included, transport, museums, canal walks, cycling. I highly recommend it to you. Be sure to bring a portable battery with you, you will need to use the application for each use. Also remember to reserve (on the day of activation) the slots for the museums, some museums are quickly reserved, which is why you must book before arriving on site. Get to the top!

Every site I visited was familiar with the I Amsterdam card and using it was a seamless process. Being able to use the tram and bus lines for free also enabled me to see more attractions than I would have otherwise. I had a great time biking through Vondelpark and taking my canal boat tour!

If you plan to visit different places in one day the card is something I would recommend since tourist spots are scattered all over the city. I just experienced some problem while using the QR code but overall the Card is worth it.

Many free entrances to museums and free travel on buses, metro and trams. Discounts on excursions and other activities. The card is definitely worth it if you are there for a few days.

The best way to discover Amsterdam and go to other museums and lesser known activities....
