Joao was an excellent tour guide! He was so informative and seemed to know everyone in the city. It was such a personable experience getting to see all the best spots in Lagos for Portuguese food. I can’t recommend this tour enough. Make sure you come hungry and don’t fill up on the bread. Thank you Joao for an incredible tour. It was an absolute pleasure!

Our guide João was fun and entertaining. He toured us around old town Lagos where we saw murals and learned about the historic surroundings, you could almost forget it was a traditional Portuguese food tour. But oh the food! Skip a meal or two before you go on this tour. I am a sweet eater & (almost) couldn’t finish my portions of the traditional desserts we had at the end. On the tour we visited a number of local restaurants that specialized in traditional dishes. We had generous portions of items I never tried before: razor clams, ray, conch, green wine and the most delicious Portuguese chorizo that had been cooked to perfection over an open flame. Plus we had more familiar foods like octopus and pork. 😋 We started at the fish market to get familiar with the local catch and tasted some items at one stall that many of us purchased: jars of spicy mackerel, honey and local piri piri hot sauces. I absolutely recommend this tour for foodies beginning their stay in Lagos. Obrigado!

My girlfriend and I booked this as it is our first time traveling in Portugal. It was a amazing experience to kick off our stay in lagos. Our tour guide (can’t spell his name but it’s a common Portuguese name) was fantastic. He brought a lot of character to the tour and to each place we visited. He has a well thought out pallet and is capable of changing recommendations on the fly. If you’re looking to book a food tour while visiting Lagos then this is the man you want as your guide.
