What You'll Do
  • Head into nature in the Protected Area outside of Faro
  • Experience a wonderful birdwatching trip with a well trained guide
  • Visit the Ria Formosa - one of the most important wetlands for aquatic birds in Portugal
Head into the protected woodlands and saltflats around Faro on the southern tip of Portugal. Your knowledgeable guide will show you the ways, and you may even be lucky enough to catch a mating dance, or the rare sight of a Purple Swamphen!
What to Expect
Faro offers an incredible treat for the traveler. Along with its fascinating history, dating from the 8th century BCE, it also is a birdwatchers paradise, and on this tour we'll visit the pine woodlands of Pontal, where we will get a marvelous view of birds such as the Azure-Winged Magpie.

The coastal area of Faro is a protected lagoon that extends along 60km (38miles) of diverse habitats. The saltpans and pine woodlands allow for incredible diversity of species, and whether you're a seasoned bird watcher, or this is your first time out, you'll be sure to gain a deep and respectful opinion of this sacred land.

Keep you eyes peeled for amazing Black-winged Stilt, Little Tern, Kentish Plover and the colorful Greater Flamingo, which are common species in these parts.

There are so many bird species here, and we'll visit the saltpans, woodlands, stream of São Lourenço, and the bird hide at Quinta do Lago. If you're lucky, you may even catch sight of some rare species of birds like the Purple Swamphen, who only live in these protected areas!

So put on your birding hat, and spend a great time in nature with this fantastic bird outing!
