What to Expect
Enjoy a pick-up from a location of your choice in Lisbon. You start the trip crossing the bridge Vasco da Gama over the River Tagus towards Évora through Alentejo region. Once there it's time for a nice walk around the historic center. See the Gothic Cathedral, the biggest of the kind in the country, built in the end of the 13th century. It's one of the main and most beautiful monuments in the city. Some of the highlights are the front portico, the front towers and the pinnacle (the exterior highest part of the dome).
Visit Giraldo square, the town's main square already in the 14th century and still one of the most central and busiest areas in the city. The name comes from Geraldo sem Pavor (Geraldo with no fear) who was a noble warrior from the 13th century, that offered as a volunteer to conquer the city from the Moors. See the Roman Temple that is also known as Diana's Temple, which was built on the highest grounds of the Roman city making it the most important place in town. From here the city was governed. You also stroll along the Roman Wall.
See St. Francis Church, built almost 500 years ago where the S. Francis convent used to be, was the Royal church. When visiting the city, this was where the Royal family used to go to the mass. One of the most impressive in the coutry. Afterwards you have some free time for lunch. After lunch you will continue to Monsaraz medieval village, considered to be one of the oldest villages in the country, located on the top of a hill, fortified by its centennial wall and close to the Spanish border. It provides great views over both countries and also over the biggest artificial lake in Europe: The lake Alqueva. Here you'll have the chance to capture nice images and relax in this "stopped in time" atmosphere. When returning to Lisbon, still time to visit a vineyard and wine cellar where you'll have the chance to taste some local wines. Back in the capital the tour will end at the hotel.
