A former Habsburg palace converted into a museum, the Albertina in Vienna is a sublime architectural as well as curatorial wonder. All art and history lovers visiting the Austrian capital should spend a day at the Albertina, they won't be disappointed.
The Albertina boasts one of Europe's most impressive permanent collections of modern art, featuring works by such luminaries as Picasso, Monet, Klee, Matisse and countless others.
The world-famous print room houses a graphic arts collection comprised of over one million pieces, ranging from the Gothic to the modern era, from Dürer to Cézanne.
The photographic collection is one the Albertina's lesser-known treasures. Stretching back to the mid-19th century, it constitutes a photographic chronicle of the last 150 years.
The Albertina constantly hosts temporary and wonderfully curated exhibitions, which either focus on a chosen theme or explore the work of a specific artist.
The recently renovated state rooms are a wonder to behold. The 21 lavish rooms offer the fascinating opportunity of traveling back in history to the time of the Habsburgs.
To grab a bite to eat, there is a popular café and restaurant in the Albertina. However, if you want to discover something new, head to the Palmenhaus around the corner. Located in a gigantic and recently renovated greenhouse from the early 19th century, the Palmenhaus is one of Vienna's most gorgeous restaurants.
The Albertina is just one small part of the giant Hofburg Palace complex. If the Albertina's state rooms didn't quench your thirst for Habsburg knowledge, make sure to visit the rest of the palace, which boasts countless more treasures and secrets from the imperial family.

Herbert was an excellent guide, he was very informative, engaging and provided really good advice on museums and local attractions which we really appreciated. The images he showed us on his ipad provided additional historical information and it was a good number of people within the group
Go for it!!! It’s worth the money! Our group of 6 ( adults and 3 kids:10,13 13 y.o) enjoyed our tour guide Herbert and the tour itself. Loved the visuals, provided by Herbert ( pictures from I-pad, showing how historical buildings of Vienna looked after the WW2)
The walking tour helped us understand both the history and layout of the city. It provided an excellent framework for all our following tourist activities. We really felt that Herbert had tailored His commentary and routeur response to our preferences.
This is an excellent tour for those who wish an overview of the history and the significant sites of Vienna. Our guide was genial and knowledgeable and provided insight and suggestions for those seeking to explore in greater depth.
