Our most recommended things to do in Albania
1. Visit Pirogoshi Cave from Berat
Albania is known for its Mediterranean climate and biodiversity. In this small country, you will find mountains, rivers, greenery, and both underground and underwater caves. Spanning 1,500 meters, Pirogoshi Cave is one of the largest caves in Albania. It is located near Çorovodë. After departing at 8:30 AM from Berat, you will briefly stop at Poliçan. This small village was built in the 1860s by the Communist government as an industrial town for the production of weapons and munitions. Then you will go to Skrapar and walk around the beautiful mountainous district for about 20 minutes. Upon arriving at the Pirogoshi Cave, prepare to experience a spectacular transition into a mystical world full of colors and exciting sounds. The three major neighborhoods of the old city are Mangalemi, Gorica, and Kala where the castle itself is located. You will start our tour with the castle area. Visiting the 'Kala' involves a steep walk up a cobbled path, but those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a fine view of the surrounding area. You will visit the Museum of Iconography 'Onufri' which bears the name of the renowned fresco and icon-painter Onufri, who has left a rich inheritance. This museum is located within the cathedral of St. Mary’s Assumption. You will also visit the Red Mosque, recognized by its lonely minaret and St. Trinity Church. Very sympathetic and knowledgeable guide with a very good command of English, who gave a good insight into the history of Albania in general and Berat in particular.
4. Tirana: Gamti Mountain Hike with Lake Views
Your experience begins as you are collected from your accommodation at 8:00AM, from where you depart for Bovilla Lake. The road is about 21 kilometers long, with half of it being off-road. Along the way, enjoy views of the suburban neighborhoods of Tirana, taking in the very different lifestyle to that of the city. Drive up to the lake's dam, before preparing to hike in Gamti Mountain. Your hiking track is of a simple level, with each step providing you with a more beautiful view than the last as you ascend to the top. Your hike lasts about 40 minutes, and on top of the hill you can enjoy the impressive views of the lake and the green hills that surround it. Whilst there, take some time to rest, enjoy the gorgeous view, and talk and eat food under the shadows of the cave. Following your break, return back down via the same track. Once done hiking, make a short stop at the river below ...
Alban was the best guide I have ever had. He goes over and above to ensure that we were well looked after and is very knowledgeable about all things Albanian. He encourages you to go the extra mile, even though I was a little nervous at first on the hike. Would thoroughly recommend. We went further and booked him for a five day private tour, which was absolutely fantastic, and went through the Albanian alps, including Komani Lake, Shala River, Valbone to Theth mountain pass and Shkoder. He ensured we had the best rooms in the guesthouses, the best seats when we needed to share transportation and allowed us full flexibility to hike and see and go swimming in waterfalls and blue eyes off the beaten track. Thank you very much Alban for making our trip to Albania unforgettable! J&O

6. Berat: Osum Canyon and Bogove Waterfall Tour
Meet at 9 AM and begin your drive in the direction of the canyon. During the drive, admire the beautiful landscape of Osumi Valley. After 30-minutes, stop in a city called Polican which was famous during the communist era for producing millions of guns. Discover how the guns factories now lie abandoned as a reminder of the past. After a 1.5-hour drive, arrive at the canyon and begin the hike. Admire the beautiful scenery and look out for local wildlife. At the end of the hike, enjoy a swim in the river to freshen up at the end of the walk. Transfer back to Berat at the end of the tour.
This is my second amazing tour booked through Get Your Guide. It’s difficult to say which I enjoyed more: the conversation with guides Randi and Ervis, swimming in the canyon, or my surprise and very much dreamed of visit to Bogove Waterfall. As a solo traveler it would have been easy with two guides to feel the outsider. I’m a high school teacher so one of the joys in my life is to talk with educated and interesting young people. I hit the jackpot with Randi and Ervis- topics ranged from history to the meaning of life and everything in between. They were incredibly conscientious of my safety without being patronizing- a hard needle to thread. The canyon was gorgeous. The waterfall was peaceful. It was a perfect day. Go alone, as a couple, or with the kids! All ages!

Next, visit the National Park of Butrint that holds more than 2000 years of history. Head to the source of the “Blue Eye” before getting to Gjirokaster. It’s a water spring with clear blue waters coming from the depth of the earth, running in the shape of an eye. The road leading to Gjirokaster will take you to the castle of the city and the old bazaar neighborhood. Visit the former homes of Ismail Kad...
