From Fairbanks: Arctic Circle Northern Lights Full-Day Trip

10. From Fairbanks: Arctic Circle Northern Lights Full-Day Trip

Alaska is a land of constant change. On this full day tour, you will have the chance to experience some of the best and most unique things that make your Alaska trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Beginning at 1 PM, get picked up from your hotel and venture up to the Arctic Circle (66.5622°) north of the Equator, where you can have your pictures taken and receive a "Cross the Circle-Certificate." It is here that explorers have been venturing for centuries, drawn by the power the planet has to offer. As you continue your day, pass the Trans-Alaska-Pipeline. Here you can glance one of the world's largest pipelines, which stretches over 800 miles (1,287km). It is a crude oil pipeline privately owned by the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, and here you will learn the engineering and building process of this epic land-crawling beast. Judge for yourself its impact on the landscape around it. After the pipeline, head straight for the banks of the mighty Yukon River. Walk right up to the edge of its banks, where you will gaze out over the beauty in front of you. From here, head to the high plateau of Finger Mountain, where you will hopefully see moose, fox, bears, and perhaps even a mysterious lynx if you're lucky! Up on the mountain, snack on sandwiches, sweets and hot drinks. Through the night, travel back to Fairbanks. Soon, if we're lucky, the Aurora Borealis appears. This natural light display is caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms high in the atmosphere. The result is a breathtaking display of light that can be bright enough to read a newspaper by! Drive through the night, gazing up at the spectacular Northern Lights, before arriving back in Fairbanks around 3 AM.

What people are saying about Alaska

Terrific! Chase was very welcoming, getting to know us and telling us about himself. His pleasant, friendly manner engaged us from the start. After some explanation about racing, the various jobs of the dogs, and specifically Alaskan huskies, he introduced us to each of his dogs individually. He had brought eight dogs to the co-op, and we loved getting our hands on them and learning about each one’s personality. He also allowed each of us to harness a dog. It was obvious that Chase loves his dogs and treats them superbly, and they love him. All the dogs were extremely friendly to us as well. I highly recommend this activity. The ride in the Jeep Side by Side through the woods with the dogs doing their share of the pulling was amazing!

We had a great time! We were picked up at a convenient location, right off our cruise ship. We took a short ride to the venue., with history and a short stop for our guide to pick up a light snack. We drove ATV mules for a short distance through the forest and took an easy hike with breaks through the woods. We learned about the history of the area, flora and fauna, in addition to the Big Foot lore. There were “Big Foot” sightings and photo opportunities! Our guide was awesome! He was knowledgeable and proceeded at our pace.

We had an excellent time!! The trek machines bite through deep snow, they are very warm inside. The scenery is outstanding!!! Hot Chocolate at the top of the trek was fabulous! Jacob was a great guide and answered all our questions. Definitely recommend plus check out their AIRBNB on property!!!
