The day was fabulous. The directions to find the meeting point could have been a little better, but we did find with the help of another tour driver. The rest of the day went very smoothly and the driver/ guide was wonderful. This trip takes in amazing landscapes .. I would highly recommend it.

Lake Myvatn is one of the most scenic places in Iceland mostly because of the magical landscape created by the geothermal powers which created the island. Be prepared to enjoy a magical landscape filled with alluring craters and striking lava formations.

When we arrive at the Lake Myvatn area, we stop at Skutustadir, known for its symmetrically formed pseudo craters, which are among the best known in the world. From Skutustadir there is a also good view of Lake Myvatn and the mountains around the lake.

Next stop is at Dimmuborgir Lavafields, with strange lava formations, a surrealistic place.

Then we head to the geothermal area of Hverir at Namaskard, one of the most spectacular places in the country, with it's solfataras (boiling sulphur mudpits) and widely different colors.

A short break to have lunch before the next destination: the Waterfall Godafoss, famed not only for its beauty, but also as the scene of historical events from the saga times. It is one of the most spectacular and historic waterfalls in Iceland. The name means the "waterfall of the gods". Is is about 12 meters high (36 feet) and 30 meters wide (90 feet), and it forms a horseshoe shape that creates a stunning spectacle of water and mist. You will have about 45 minutes to explore the waterfall, take photos of this natural wonder and, if you like, grab a coffee at the Godafoss Coffee Shop.

After admiring the waterfall, you will board the bus again and head back to Akureyri.

Pick-up is at the harbour 1 hour after the arrival of the ship, and departure 30 minutes later. When you have booked the tour, please read the information regarding the pick-up time and place carefully.

A very enjoyable day led by an excellent guide who provided much helpful information about the places we visited as well as life in this part of Iceland. The minibus was slightly cramped for the tall member of our party but was clean and quiet. There was plenty of time allocated at each stop to allow for photos, toilets and refreshments. A simple snack lunch was provided. The Godafoss waterfall was spectacular and the hot springs and lava fields around Lake Myvatn were remarkable. We would be happy to recommend this trip to anyone visiting Akureyri.
