Full description
Your day-long adventure begins as you head north from Agadir to the former Portuguese city of Essaouira, passing isolated beaches, the palace of a Saudi prince, and the village of Taghazout along the way. Once known by its Portuguese name of Mogador, the city of Essaouira is a citadel with a prestigious past, occupied by various civilizations since prehistoric times. And famous for its Tyrian factory that once supplied Rome with its legendary purple dye, Essaouira is a cradle for artists of all types. Upon your arrival in the city, embark on a tour of the port and watch as the fishing boats return home. The Bab El Marse port not only has its Sqala canons on display, but it offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Medina. Travel to the Media itself—a UNESCO World Heritage site—and go inside to meet celebrated marquetry inlayers and cabinetmakers. Stop in at the Women's Cooperative manufacturer of argan oil, and then enjoy some free time exploring the alleyways of the Medin, strolling along the endless beach, or testing out some fresh fish at a local beachfront restaurant.

A superb day in the company of Ishmael a very good driver and Hassan, an exceptional guide who knows the history of his country and makes us benefit from it. We had Aziz in Essaouira as our guide, a wonderful man. This day was magnificent and Essaouira is worth a visit: the people are warm and the Driss pastry shop is a delight!!

The most fun thing about the trip to Essaouira was when we stopped the bus to catch the goats climbing the Argant trees. The visit to Medinan and Kasban towards the sea was quiet and nice without the annoying salesman. The little "uncle" guide in Essaouira spoke mostly unintelligible English, but it went well anyway. The visit to the Women's Co-operative of Argan products can be without. 1 minute view of the production and incredibly expensive prices. Saw it as a money donation to the Cooperative's upkeep for Marrocko's women.

Excellent Day in Essaouira

This was a magical day trip from Agadir. The tour guide, whose name escapes me and for which I am so sorry it does, made the day one of the best of my entire trip. He was incredibly personable and professional. He shared his knowledge throughout the drive and being that I was able to sit up front with him, explained much about the history and daily life in Morocco and was more than happy to answer all my questions. Essaouira was beautiful and our guide was a lovely older man who was happy to show us around. We had lunch at a touristy restaurant but the food, chicken tagine, was amazing. Stopped at an argan oil coop which was very informative and to see the goats in the trees which was incredible. Also had two bathroom breaks, one going and one coming. Excellent tour and highly recommend!
