Full description
Depart from the Port of Trapani and take the ferry or hydrofoil which runs every half hour to Levanzo Island. When you arrive, your guide will be waiting to meet you.  Hop into a Jeep or a boat (depending on sea conditions) and travel together along the north-west coast. Admire the incredible Karst scenery - steep limestone cliffs that rise up above the water. Reach the Genovese cave formation which looks over a small creek hidden by typical Mediterranean vegetation.  Head inside the grotto where you will find the remains of a kiln that was historically used to make lime. Continue on into the deeper chambers where you will find 33 engraved pictures and about 100 painted figures. Gaze in awe at these incredible prehistoric works of art before making the return journey back the way you came.  Please note that if you drive to cave in a car, there will be a 700 m steep path to climb.

They took us by boat from the pier of the island of Levanzo to the base of the cave. Although it is a tiny cave, the guide's careful explanation and the illusion shown by the Neolithic and Paleolithic paintings make it worthwhile. It is surprising that you can still visit and that they let you get so close. Recommendable.

Organizationally, everything went well. However, the guide didn't speak English very well. But it's definitely worth it. In retrospect, I should have thought up questions beforehand and translated them into Italian straight away. You can't get in without a tour, so it's worth it. It's a shame about the language.

La grotta è meravigliosa e la nostra guida, Natale, è stata paziente ed esauriente oltre che simpatica. L isola di per sé è bellissima ma la grotta, i dipinti e le incisioni sulla pietra calcarea sono commoventi
