Full description

Join a day trip to El Yunque Rainforest and the bay of Laguna Grande, two of Puerto Rico's natural gems, on a day trip from San Juan. Follow your guide through nature trails, kayak in Fajardo Bio Bay, and observe bioluminescence at night. Enjoy return hotel transfers, snacks, and all entrance fees.

Following a morning pickup at your accommodation, embark in direction of your bio bay and rainforest adventure. Enjoy the beautiful views along the scenic route through the north side of the island and learn some facts about the areas from your guide. Make a stop in the town of Luquillo and enjoy some fresh local fruits before continuing the journey to Puerto Rico's majestic rainforest. El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest, and the most studied forest in the United States National Forest System. Admire its biological diversity with its plants and animals – some of which are found only in Puerto Rico. Hike through trails lined with beautiful flora and fauna, and some river wading.

Arrive at a hidden gem located in the heart of the rainforest. Enjoy the breathtaking segment of the 29,000-acre forest and swim in natural pools and waterfalls, slide down a waterslide, rope swing into the river, jump from different rock formations, and enjoy fresh local fruit with a view.

After working up an appetite with an exciting first half of the day, make a stop for dinner at a local restaurant and savor Puerto Rican cuisine (at your expense). Relax a bit until it’s time for the second part of your combo tour – the Bioluminescent Lagoon, one of planet earth's best-kept secrets. Begin your Fajardo Bio Bay kayak tour at Las Croabas. After receiving a safety briefing on kayaking, head toward the Red Mangrove Forest with an amazing view of the sunset. Enjoy kayaking for approximately 30 minutes, and admire the forest's beautiful protected flora and fauna.

Upon arrival in Laguna Grande, let the magic unfold. Tiny organisms called dinoflagellates make the water glow at night. Watch how sparkles appear in the water at every stroke of your paddle, follow the swirl of lights created by the kayaks, and admire the glowing fish in the darkness of the water.

This was the coolest thing we did our whole vacation and so worth it! Everything was perfectly paced so We never felt tired or hungry or overhwelmed. That said, it was definitely physically challenging, so be prepared to scramble up some rocks and do some serious kayak paddling against the current for bits. I also recommend bringing a pair of sandals for dinner and bringing a second pair of dry clothes so you can be dry for dinner and the ride home.

What an awesome day! This was an amazing way to see the El Yunque Rainforest, jump off some high rocks, swing like Tarzan into the water and then kayak into the Bio Bay. It was a really long day but we got to see some really unique things and made some new friends.

This was a really fun day trip from San Juan! Be prepared to be fully submerged in the water during the rainforest part and pack additional dry clothes for the bus ride home after the kayaking tour (so, wear one pair + bathing suit, pack two additional pairs). Our guides were fantastic, especially when some of our group (myself included) were a little nervous about the "cliff" jumping-- they made sure no one felt rushed or singled out. The dinner spot was lovely, as were the fruit smoothies on the way in. We'd be warned that the bioluminescent algae were not back in full force, but it was still really cool to see during the kayaking tour! The bay can get crowded with other tour groups, but our guides made sure that our group stuck together and made it out of the bay safely. Would 100% recommend
