Full description
They say that sharing a meal is the best way to get to know each other but a walking tour with at least 6 foodie stops is even better! The stops include the oldest restaurant in Reykjavik, a legendary hot dog stand, the local's favorite food market if open and one of the top restaurants in Iceland. This tour samples at least 15 different Icelandic dishes; both traditional classics and modern favorites. Your guide knows all the best spots to get the famous Icelandic meat soup (just like mamma makes it), Skyr (a type of yoghurt) and delicious lobster soup. You can even try some fermented shark, if you dare. You’ll learn what the Vikings ate and how Icelandic people have survived harsh winters thanks to theri special cooking and preserving methods.  The tour runs everyday and you’ll walk around 2.5 kilometers, making plenty of stops along the way. With no more than 12 people on a tour, you’ll be able to ask any questions about Icelandic food and culture, plus make a few new friends. And, you certainly won’t leave feeling hungry!

Meeting point

This tour meets at Ingolfstorg Square in the center of Reykjavik by the two stone high seat pillars (over 2 meters high). The square is at the beginning of Austurstræti (Austurstræti 1) and is squared off by the streets Aðalstræti, Hafnarstræti, Veltusund and Vallarstræti. If you walk down Laugavegur (the main shopping street), please continue until the end. On Ingolfur Square itself, you can see Kvosin, a small grocery market, Citycenter Plaza Hotel, Hlölli (a fast food establishment) and finally a kebab house. It is recommended to use Google Maps as the Icelandic Street names can be tricky.

I took this tour as a solo Traveller on my birthday. Im not sure which was better, the food, the entertaining stories from Bardi, or the excitement from the fellow tour goers. They all wholeheartedly celebrated their trip and made the experience fantastic! I enjoyed learning more about Iceland through food!

Great fun and the opportunity to try food you probably would'nt try

There were six of us that met up with Ester for a great tour of some lovely restaurants in Reykjavik. Ester was a perfect host telling us about the origins of the food and other interesting facts about life in Iceland. The walk is not far as it concentrates around the old part of Reykjavik and you are very full afterwards.

We had a wonderful day with Snaedis who showed us parts of the city we wouldn't have seen otherwise. The food was lovely and the tour paced so as to give us time to digest what we'd eaten. I'd recommend them for this trip.
