Full description
Travel from Split or Trogir on this full-day (12-hour) tour to the most beautiful natural park in Europe, protected by UNESCO since 1979 as a World Natural Heritage Site. Plitvice Lakes National Park was founded in 1949, making it one of the oldest national parks in southeastern Europe. In Plitvice National Park, nature has created 16 lakes and connected them by amazing travertine waterfalls. The park covers 29,685 hectares, with lakes making up 200 hectares and forest covering the majority of the area. During your visit you may encounter a variety of the species that have lived in the area since before the time of human arrival. One of the main attractions is the 78-meter-high waterfall known as Veliki Slap, which is the highest waterfall in Croatia. In addition to the guided walks along wooden paths, you’ll enjoy a boat ride across the biggest lake, and also a short train ride. Admire even more stunning scenery on a relaxing drive through the Lika region, taking in the mountain and forest landscapes.

Journey in a comfortable bus, well organized excursion, incredible site of beauty. The only downside would be on the pace imposed by the guide. Sympathetic moreover but chaining the big steps in order to respect its timing (arrival one hour later and departure 30 minutes earlier than planned) suddenly walk at a run. We nevertheless took the necessary time since we were with the family (children aged 8 and 5) and the guide had to wait for us several times! Other than that, it was superb!

Fortunately, due to Covid, the lakes are quiet to visit this year. Petar, our guide, was very informative of the area on the drive to the lakes from Split and provided us with lots of information whilst at the lakes. He made time to chat to everyone to and helped with taking photos. It was a long day, but it is an area of natural beauty and was worth the trip.

When in Croatia, it is really worthwhile to visit one of 8 national parks, in particular this one. If you like birdsong, rippling water, the sound of running water and a breeze then the breathtaking view at the top is the icing on the cake. This park is a piece of paradise on earth. are present (but largely absent). That makes passing oncoming traffic sometimes quite exciting when it is busy in the park. It was an unforgettable day and I still enjoy scrolling through my photo album
